We never have enough volunteers! Our loyal and dedicated volunteers are vital for both our riding and carriage driving sessions. The more help we have, the more riders and drivers we can take on.
Our volunteers will help with the following:
- Catch, groom and tack up ponies before the lessons.
- Help set up the riding or driving areas prior to sessions and clear away afterwards.
- Lead ponies, support riders (side-walk) and accompany the carriages.
Experience with horses is a definite advantage, but isn’t necessary by any means. All our volunteers go through a training process and work alongside experienced helpers to begin with. Safety of our clients and volunteers is paramount.
We need help with maintaining the level of training and fitness of our ponies, and to train the younger ponies, so volunteers with riding experience may also help with ridden work, in some cases competing.
Volunteering doesn’t have to involve work directly with the ponies. We are always very grateful for help with fund raising or helping with refreshments.
Volunteers must be 12 years minimum and are subject to a CRB check.
We run sessions on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. If you would like to find out more about volunteering for the RDA and feel able to commit to a few hours help on a regular basis then please get in touch, we’ll arrange a mutually convenient time and you can pop down and meet us all.
